Seaman Health Report

For the general examination of seafarers who apply to become a seafarer for the first time, of seafarers who do not have their periodic inspection done on time, and of seafarers who have completed the periodical inspection limit by having three sequential inspections done; They should personally apply to the authorized health institution with a health board. It is obligatory for seafarers to obtain a "Seafarers Health Inspection Certificate" from the authorized center in accordance with the "Become a Seafarer Health Report", which will be given after being checked by the health board formed in accordance with the provisions of this Directive in authorized health institutions.

Seafarers working on vessels less than 200 GT and seafarers working on fishing vessels are excluded from the provisions of the "Seafarers Health Directive".

What should first-time seafarers do?

For the general examination of seafarers who apply to become a seafarer for the first time, of seafarers who do not have their periodic inspection done on time, and of seafarers who have completed the periodical inspection limit by having three sequential inspections done; They should personally apply to the authorized health institution with a health board.

It is obligatory for the seafarers to obtain a "Seamen Health Inspection Certificate" from the authorized center in accordance with the "Health Report to Become a Seafarer", which will be given after being checked by the health board formed in accordance with the provisions of this Directive at the authorized health institutions.

Health examinations of students and seafarers under 18 years of age

Students who will enroll in educational institutions and organizations that train seafarers as a profession are required to have a "Seafarer Health Report" by having their health examination done in a way that includes the procedures and principles determined in the Seafarers Health Directive. They are not required to have "Periodic Health Examinations" during their education, but they are required to obtain a Become Seafarer Health Report when they start active work.

Seafarers under the age of eighteen have periodic health examinations every year, taking into account the provisions of the "Seafarers' Health Directive" and the International Labor Organization (ILO) "Convention No. 77 on Children and Young People's Health Check-ups in terms of Employability". In other words, the permanent employment of those under the age of 18 in sea service is subject to the condition that the "Periodic Health Inspections" are renewed every year.

Periodic health examinations of seafarers and seafarers under the age of 18 are carried out taking into account the requirements of this Directive and the International Labor Organization (77) numbered "Convention on the Subjection of Children and Young Persons to Health Examination for Employability", to which our country is also a party. their continuous employment in sea service is subject to the condition that the "Periodic Health Inspections" are renewed every year.

The students who will enroll in the education institutions and organizations that train seafarers must have the "Seafarer Become a Seafarer Health Report" approved by the Health Inspection Center and obtain a Seafarer Health Inspection Certificate (Appendix-13). Periodic health examinations are optional during their education. Students who regularly have their periodic examinations are given the right to periodic examination as per the directive when they start active work.”
